New Guidelines for weight gain during pregnancy

Hola,,,

just want to share with ladies out there on the new guidelines for weight gain during pregnancy. Previously, i'd post an entry about preggy mother and some guidelines for them in tribute-to-preggy-mummy

here are the new guidelines on weight gain during pregnancy

one of the most important modifier of pregnancy weight gain and its impact on a mother's and her baby's health is a woman's weight gain at the start of pregnancy. the best available measure of pre-pregnancy weight, body mass index (BMI), has been updated in the new guidelines to the categories developed by the WHO and adopted by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute

new recommendations for total and rate of weight gain during pregnancy, by pre-pregnancy BMI

1st of all, mothers should know their pre-pregnancy BMI falls in which categories

BMI formula calculation


after mothers know which categories they are for pre-pregnancy BMI, they need to know the total weight gain range during pregnancy:

BMI Underweight pre-pregnancy mother should gain between (12.6-18)kg
BMI Normal weight pre-pregnancy mother should gain between (11.3-16)kg
BMI overweight pre-pregnancy mother should gain between (7-11)kg
BMI obese (includes all classes) pre-pregnancy mother should gain between (5-9)kg
